The fifth of the Little, Brown novelettes, and while not the equal of the others in fundamental values, still entertaining reading, original, clever and on the side of sophistication. The story of a man whose actual relations with his wife are revealed to him only after her death, when her diary shows him a new side of her character, secretive, suspicious, inclined to unnecessary deceptions. This impression of the wife he had adored, claims him after her death, and almost succeeds in coming between him and his newfound love... Again this is evidence that brevity can be compact of emotional value which length may make diffuse.
