EAGLE MASK: A West Coast Indian Tale

A short, succinct, but highly evocative glimpse into the life of the Indian Skemshan, son of the chief of the Eagle clan. His endurance test, a great whale-hunting expedition, and his father's marathon potlatch are among the events described from Skemshan's own personal viewpoint and with regard to their special significance for him. The culmination is his mystical comprehension of what it means to be a prince of the Eagle clan. Although less striking than Tiktaliktak; An Eskimo Legend (1965, p. 575-J189) and with more specific emphasis on illustrating Indian ways, rather than on personality, this is still very readable as well as revealing.
