SHERLOCK ON THE TRAIL

The author and illustrator who created Mr. Moonlight and Omar (1963, 795, J-255) are on the trail of a droll dog, Sherlock, a down-in-the-mouth little girl, and a patient policeman. Having found the scent, Sherlock, following the dictates of his sensitive smeller, leads the way to the ""robber"" of Marjorie's piggy bank. Across the town of rushing people and of skinny, colorful buildings, Sherlock goes, straight to the Law Office building-- and right to the desk of Marjorie's father. A calamitous situation dissolves as the piggy bank is revealed. Witty pen and ink sketches with effective use of bright, solid color are appropriate to the light hearted text.
