KIRKUS REVIEW

Commercial bee-raising as a fascinating business is proved by the author's career in California, for his childish interest in them led him into years of experimentation and new development. From school through hard-earned college, bees provided him with needed cash, whether it was with his own stands or managing others'; bees helped him get married and learn the unusual aspects of Nevada bee-keeping; and bees, with their importance in pollinization after the effects of poisonous spray dusting had affected orchards and legume seed production, opened a new type of work. There is the business too of package-bees, shipped first by train and now by air (and the accidents in transport), and of the potentials of bee culture as its part in determining an agricultural surplus, has been, and is being, proved -- all along with the always interesting facts of the world of bees, with its laws of survival and ""fidelty of intent"". A man with a severe case of hives makes his life work a stinging story.
