Grant Wood was the painter in bibbed overalls. His best known paintings record the grainy, leathery faces of rural America--he was from Iowa and even his excursions to Paris and Naples could not dent his fundamental regionalism. Dennis however has provided a good selection of the atypical canvases--Parisian watercolors showing Impressionist influences--as well as the book jackets, lithographs and flat Midwestern landscapes in which Grant paid homage to the noble Yankee yeoman. Outstanding.
