STEPHEN AYRES

A competent workmanlike job, which would have more vitality if it had been more sharply blue-pencilled. The story of Stephen Ayres might be the story of the average American, from poor beginnings to control of the foundry. There is an early marriage, a year of friction, and divorce for due cause. Then a step up the social ladder into the centre of social life of a mid-western town, and a second marriage, which nearly goes on the rocks when financial anxieties weigh them down. There are fine drawn and tense months, well done, and the couple pull through to sound relations. A segment of American life.
