KIRKUS REVIEW

Carl Schurz told his own story so much better and so much more vigorously that we recommend for younger readers the one volume abridgement of that three volume classic of autobiography which was published by Scribner's in 1961 and edited by Wayne Andrews. Mr. Terzian has used you-are-there/fly-on-the- wall/mind reading devices on the life of a political leader who faced and produced so much intellectual excitement that the stagey approach is no service to either the subject or the potential readers.
