Boys' club politics with a plus on baseball -- admirable nobility in the hero along with a lively story. Tommy Temple, newcomer to Trinity City, is delighted when he is voted into the Boys' Club, and is on his way to becoming top pitcher. However, his growing popularity angers one villainous Harry Carley, a rich man's son, who has been spoiled into having his own way. In spite of Harry's brutal methods to get rid of Tommy -- hiring boys (whom Tommy later befriends) to ""work him over"", and a chauffeur to take Tommy out of the way for the big game, justice and fair play triumph.
