THE STRANGE LIGHT

The only illumination you need for this story comes quite early with the revelation that the books's fantasy land is the place where all fictional characters come from. Christina is a Reader, she's staying with her uncle (an author), and she wanders into the land by accident, but is given a tour and explanations of how the populace are summoned for books. Juvenile bibliophiles may enjoy the name-dropping of classic authors, characters and types. Otherwise there is nothing to hold children, and the book gives the impression that all fictional characters have similar personalities. It's terribly British, terribly precious, terribly inconsequential.
