SHADOW AND THE STOCKING

Perhaps this is a stepping stone book from this group to the next, for it isn't really a picture book, though the Morgan Dennis pictures help interpret the story of the puppy who didn't forget the dirty stocking his mistresses didn't want him to play with. The language is repetitive -- a good opening wedge in learning to read -- but perfect to read aloud to the picture-story-book age as well.
