FAST FRIENDS

Pub Date: Sept. 24th, 1979

The other, faster animals don't want to play with them, so Murray (a turtle) and Fred (a snail) hit the road--and end up careening home on a skateboard, besieged by the others for rides and quite blas‚ about going fast. (""I can take it or leave it,"" says Murray at day's end.) In the second of two stories here, newcomer Thomas (a mouse) is badgered by demanding Clem, a turtle, into building a house and furniture and buying cookies and milk so he can ""have friends over""--but then he turns the tables and inspires self-housed Clem to build another house, just for having friends over. Agreeable small fry with a bit of zip and more personality than most.
