NO NEED FOR MONTY

In this sequel to Monty, Stevenson describes what happens when grown-ups try to improve on their children's unusual way of getting to school. Every morning, Doris, Arthur and Tom (a duck, a frog and a bunny) ride on Monty the alligator's hack across the river to school. Rain or shine, Monty is there. But the grown-ups, led by pompous pig Kirkham, feel that this is inefficient. They inaugurate a number of reforms--rowboat, hot-air balloon, stilts, etc.--all of which prove disastrous. Finally, the grown-ups are forced to admit that Monty is the most reliable form of transportation after all. Readers will be gratified to discover that the children were right all along. Stevenson's quickly sketched, cartoony illustrations are as lively as ever The dialogue in comic-strip bubbles makes the book especially attractive to new readers.
