Once again bad witches Dolores and Lavinia pester good-hearted Emma, and once again they receive their comeuppance. For the New Year, Dolores and Lavinia resolve to make Emma even more miserable than they did last year: they ""teach"" her to ski by pushing her off a cliff, then have her clear a long path through deep snow for a party to which she's not invited. But Emma and her animal friends Roland and Botsford concoct a suitable revenge, involving a bowl of ""ghastly-green-go-to-sleep-for-20-years fruit cooler"" and an invasion of outer-space Galumphids, who can shrink people with a look. As usual, Stevenson puts his splashy, energetic watercolors in comic-strip format. If you enjoyed Emma's previous triumphs, you'll like this, since the story is essentially the same. But don't expect to find much information about the holiday.
