Set in the swamps near the mouth of the Pascagoula in Mississippi, this is a boy and dog story with a tight, spare quality to its characterizations that makes it a community vignette as well. 14 year old Skeeter who lives with his uncle finds a lost, valuable Basenji bitch. Their days together; working with and understanding each other, mature Skeeter so that he is able to take ""Lady's"" inevitable loss, when her kennel finds her, manfully.
