DEAR NEWLYWEDS

Between April of 1939 and May of 1943 Pope Pius XII received newly married couples in over 50 audiences. This admirable book, selected and translated by James and Bianca Murray, includes some of the Holy Father's most eloquent and beautiful utterances on marriage. The translators do not place the talks in chronological order, but section them logically according to subject matter. Beginning with the relationship of ""Husband and Wife"", the book develops the Pontiff's thoughts on ""Home and Family"" and the ""Family and God"". All married couples, not just brides and grooms, should add Dear Newlyweds to their reading lists. Parents can profitably study the chapters on Family Life and the relationship between parents and children. Fathers can ponder the statement of Pius XII that, ""a father's respect for the mother is an incentive to the children to look upon their mother, and the father himself, with respect, veneration and love."" Mothers can remind themselves that ""the heroism of motherhood is the pride and glory of the Christian wife."" This book suggests itself as a perfect wedding or anniversary gift to remind husbands and wives of the sanotity of the sacrament of Matrimony.
