Mystified by the number of kids who have ``paired off'' since they entered seventh grade, Marci and Pam make a pact to have boyfriends in time to attend the big Valentine's Day dance. In fairly short order, they succeed: with few ripples, Pam snags sincere Tony, and Marci nearly lands semi-jerk Patrick. Fortunately, she is saved at the last minute by friend-turned- knight-errant Spike. A frivolous but smooth romance in the ``Bullseye'' series for slow or reluctant readers who have not yet overdosed on similar plots. (Fiction. 10-14)
