MORGAN'S CASTLE by Jan Hilliard

An undemanding mystery with an applique of romance, or vice versa, tells of 16-year-old Laura Dean's summer in the home of Charlotte Morgan, a crenellated extravaganza known as Morgan's Castle. Charlotte has designs on Laura for her 29-year-old son who has been brooding, with a bottle in one hand, ever since the accidental (?) death of his wife. Laura's father wisely mistrusts the situation, escorts her there and stays on -- long enough to expose the muffled family scandal -- a bluebearded grandfather. His genes seem to have been transmitted and history, or heredity, repeats itself before the summer comes to an end, on a happier note. The scene is upper New York State and the time is the present, a sheltered present... Agreeable, analgesic light entertainment for women only.
