THE VEGETABULL

This is a fine story, done with very artful simplicity, a gift to us from the European graphic artist who is perhaps best known to the world of American children's books through his collaboration on The Little Red Engine. The story line runs, now with concern now with relief, after Yorick, a bull on the island of Mandolia who is tired of eating grass. How he gets into the valuable vegetable garden and what happens afterward as a result of this black deed, provides an ample supply of laughable situations. Illustrations in full color have been marvellously reproduced and with their misty shapes and strange figures, they give a form to the fancy that is lightly sophisticated. Printed in Holland. Rather weak stitching.
