KIRKUS REVIEW

A family album of daguerreotype-like drawings set against a dark brown background with folksy commentary, supposedly by Abe himself. The inviting layout makes the captions -- ""This is me, Little Abe. About half as high as that apple bough"" -- doubly disappointing, and the old story about the little girl's letter which suggested to the President the idea of growing a beard hardly needs retelling. The snippets of biography focus around the state of Lincoln's chin, and in fact he looks and sounds more like the village idiot than an important historical figure.
