Title no help book -- but this tale of a blind cat and his younger helpmeet has the kind of sympathetic tug that has made Clyde Bulla's Old Charlie a perennial favorite. Ginger loses his vision graphically, poignantly; then Anna, ever-faithful, begins his reeducation, and his spirit as well as his confidence returns. But he is not equipped to quit the backyard and visit longshoreman Mr. McGuffy, provider of fresh fish, alone: what befalls him before he's reunited with Anna makes up the less touching, still anxious second half. Ineluctably appealing, little thanks either to the orange and mauve pictures.
