STRANGERS IN COMPANY

Miss Hodge, far from her cantilevered Maulever Hall with a modern story, as pictorial as Mary Stewart's (a primary value) and much more believably plotted. Marian Frenche, pretty mid-thirtyish, whose husband had abandoned her years ago and whose twins have left her for the first time, is casually hired to chaperone volatile and sometimes difficult young Stella on a bus tour through Greece. As they proceed ruin by myth from sight to site, accidents keep happening -- a fatal fall here, a rolling stone there, and Marian is sure she is being watched or followed. On the other hand there's a nice professor who is attentive, until she begins to suspect him too and until Stella confides the way in which she is to be used, dubbed in as a political prisoner. For the woman of all seasons -- she'll enjoy it.
