It's not hard to get a purchase on this ever since Maulever Hall because the story is just as differently familiar though better than some. Juliet and Josephine are look-alike cousins and Josephine, who is married in name only to Hyde Purchis, asks Juliet to substitute for her while she presumably goes off to help retrieve Napoleon from his exile in St. Helena. Therefore Hyde is involved in a duel, wounded and nursed by Juliet, brought back to more than one kind of life by a doctor's dosage of Spanish fly, and while Josephine's full wickedness will be revealed, it comes as no surprise to her husband who is not as dull as one has been led to believe. . . .
