The perky account of a wife who, brought up by an exceedingly businesslike father, set out to save the almost impossibly reefed business of her charming husband, who simply didn't set store by money and was far too good natured to bother about it. Instead of taking a trip to Paris which George extends, Janie takes one to the office of the lumberyard, where she spends a couple of years getting things in working order. Her bouts with creditors, her acquaintance with Mr. Linkletter, the grapevine for Harry Haines, the crook who is so eager to dispose of the business that he postpones his honeymoon to watch its death throes, provide giggles and grins rather than guffaws. Then there is the well stacked Mag who is hired to cook and care for the children and who brings in the two best customers by her scrupulously honest wiles.
