THE CAROLINIANS

Like the majority of people in Benton's Crossing the influential Quantrells--Alwyn and his children Brant, Sabrina and little Tag--were loyal to England during the Revolution and gave the King's forces stubborn support as defeats in the north make the English army increasingly tyrannical. Sabrina is the first to capitulate when she falls in love with Virginia Orne Savage, a wounded officer of Morgan's Raiders, whom her father saves from Tory vengeance. The murder of Tag and the increasingly high-handed behaviour of British officers estranges Brant from his father. Sabrina marries Orne, Brant joins the rebels and everything is nicely wound up by the last page of this notably tedious historical novel.
