KIRKUS REVIEW

There are plenty of stories in which people who happen to be animals celebrate Christmas; in this one, a family of bears who move, bend, and behave like humans celebrate Chanukah with their apparently Christian friends, two squirrels. Preparation for the holiday takes place in a quaint, cozy home, with every detail--from the dishes in the cupboards to the floral patterns of fabric and wallpaper--lovingly depicted. Beni and his sister Sana take time out to play in the snow with Sasha and Christopher, helping to put a five-pointed star on top of their tree and inviting them home to share the evening ritual and learn to spin the dreidel. Nothing much happens here, but the slight story is a pleasant recapitulation of Chanukah customs and the illustrations are attractive.
