SOMETHING NEW FOR TACO

The text and illustrations provide authenticity for this portrayal of life in the California desert. The actual story line, which deals with a 25-year-old tortoise who gets swept away from his home in a flash flood, is minimal. Except for the names, the animals are free from human attributes in their frankly portrayed struggle for existence. The muted, gray and coral wash drawings are faithful, graceful renderings of the scenery and wild life.
