CAMERONS AT THE CASTLE

Shona Cameron and her brothers are a little older now, and ready for a somewhat more romantic adventure for their Scottish holiday than in Camerons on the Train and Camerons on the Hills. Castle Vannich with its dashing young lord and its own legends involving a ghost piper, a missing jewelled crucifix, and a prophecy about a white hind, provides a perfect setting. Shona has also grown more aware of her particular responsibilities which include caring for her five-year-old mentally retarded brother Nink, who gives and receives a special kind of love. Not much actually occurs, but the story is thick with scenic atmosphere. The characters are as fresh as in the earlier books, and the tone is a pleasant cross between humor and sentimentality.
