WINDIGO: A Wilderness Story of Fear and Courage

When his father, who has been his loyal trapping partner, dies of pneumonia, young Andy Cameron is determined to work their trap line himself. The rugged, snow-and-ice French Canadian wilds are vividly captured in lovely browns and greys by the author. Andy's trap line runs through the Ouah Davic valley, where the Indians and some French Canadians believe an evil spirit of the north--the Windigo-- roams, gnawing trappers to death during the winter. Andy, with his shy dog, hunts diligently for evasive trap robbers, a wolverine and ""Black Boniface"", a giant-sized bear. When the mysterious ""bear"" is discovered, the results are strange and surprising. And, although the author might have condensed his material profitably, adventure-lovers, especially boys, should find this a satisfying story.
