KIRKUS REVIEW

A summer working for a country weekly launches a career for a high school grad in this career book for girls. Jennifer Collings, turned down by the city Globe trys her home town weekly run by Red and Mary Marston. She soon learns that by-lines come few and far between the routine activities such as garnering ads, backing every day squibs and even folding the papers for distribution. Hard work and initiative do the trick, Jennifer gets her big story, and pinch hits for the editor in an emergency. There is also a sub plot involving a grudge against the wealthy Joseph Brady whom she believed cheated her invalid father out of a business. Jennifer sees the light before Brady dies to leave her money to go to college. Routine, and as usual in glamor career books, actual information on the techniques of the trade is sparse.
