Grandfather Aab, leader of a tribe of orang-utans In Borneo, watches the development of his grandson with interest and mild apprehension. The younger Aab prefers isolation to the playmates. During one of his private swings over the river, he sees Tuv, another orang being attacked by crocodiles. He saves him, brings him back to the tribe, but the ungrateful fellow sets about scheming his own coup. When Tuv attacks man for no reason, Aab defends man and is banished from the tribe on principle. Yet it is Aab and Man who nurse Tuv back to health when his arms are broken, and Tuv who reforms. Readers who are not disturbed by a humanized conception of animals may Miss tale of the orang's code of ethics.
