THE PUPPY WHO WANTED A BOY

About every boy wants a puppy, but in the case of Petey, a floppy-cared dog of indeterminate species, it was the puppy who wanted the boy. Finding a boy was not quite as easy as the sprightly little dog thought, and after being emphatically discouraged by a variety of pedigreed pets, it was a sad little Petey who peered, one Christmas evening, through the lighted window of the orphanage. No, Petey doesn't get a boy---he gets fifty, and this is the story of the puppy who wanted a master. Jane Thayer, who under the name of Catherine Woolley, has written widely for first readers, shows here a marked flair for the read aloud medium, and Seymour Fleishman's illustrations combine happily with her text to establish Petey as a real pet of a pup.
