Another of Thayer's insipid, invisible elves, Ebenezer is crushed to discover that Martha, the little girl he lives with, doesn't know he exists. "" 'I will have to make her believe in elves, in Ebenezer Elf,' he decided,"" and so he attempts all manner of mischief, only to hear her attribute the mess-ups to other causes. It's substituting two nickels for a dime in her bank that does it for Ebenezer, but it takes more than a two-bit trick to win our acceptance. Crude, overpatterned illustrations don't help.
