THE GOLDEN HISTORY OF THE WORLD

By

Publisher: Simon & Schuster

The tumultuous history of the world reduced to 155 pages is no mean feat. It could not have been so successfully achieved were it not for the picture spreads and spot marginal drawings by Cornelius De Witt, many in color, with their lively, imaginative and versatile story- telling quality. Though by no means perfect in either drawing or reproduction, they do the job set for them-they show history in miniature, and interpret the flow of the text. From prehistory through the changing pattern of the way men lived, the text carries on to the atomic age. Period after period, one people after another, sometimes in mythological terms, sometimes in historic, the march of history is given panoramically. A glance at the Table of Contents highspots the pattern -- as personalities, groups functioning, the rise and fall of nations come into focus. This should provide stimulus for the child's curiosity to search for greater detail elsewhere.
