Harvey is confounded when it comes to figuring out what his Dad would like for Father’s Day. His siblings give ties, golf balls and nails every year, and Dad always says, “Thank you. I could always use another. . . .” While Harvey wrestles with the dilemma of finding something original to give, he calls on his Dad for help throughout his busy day—patching up a cut leg, pumping up a bicycle tire, drying off after a bath. After a wonderful bedtime story, Harvey realizes that a “thank you” would be the perfect gift. His card shows his Dad exactly what he loves and appreciates most about him, and elicits a “You’re welcome” in return. Ember’s anthropomorphized bear family displays a wide range of emotions, and their surroundings will be comforting and familiar to almost any reader. Best of all, Nolan and Ember have managed to highlight Harvey’s gift while at the same time not belittling the gifts of the other children. A warm sentiment to share with any child shopping for Father’s Day. (Picture book. 4-8)
