KIRKUS REVIEW

When his father, a secret agent, sets off on a new mission, young Jonathan is assigned to spend the summer with his bothersome Aunt Agnes and her daughter at Castle Balou, located to the north of Rome. What could have been, and should have been, a setting to enhance enigma is only shabbily stereotypical, and the castle's secret, a buried treasure, will have been obvious to the reader from page one on. This is hardly enough to keep him going with Jonathan, cousin Leila, an Italian friend, Paolo, and their dogs on daily jaunts in and around Balou.
