KIRKUS REVIEW

Another UFO kidnapping? So it seems when Schulman's friendly hobo is carried off by a big flying silver thing that comes down near his shack in the woods right where a greedy land developer is setting up plans for a parking lot. Jack returns, his hair turned white with fright, to tell of huge ratlike monsters with a phaser gun who are preparing to move to the very same spot. The story is enough to discourage the developer, and after he takes off Jack tells the children what really happened: the UFO was a U.S. weather balloon and the white hair a result of a spilled sack of flour from a nearby treehouse. Quick thinking for the previously dopey bum; could be he's shaping up.
