A collection of articles and fiction (most of the stories have appeared in women's magazines or newspapers) by the author of The Enduring Hills, Miss Willie, and other sunbonnet celebrations of the rural past and present of Kentucky and Oklahoma. The stories feature pioneer pluck such as examplified by Daniel Boone's wife, Rebecca (""Where is home except where your man is""), little boys who say ""golly"" and gee"" and childhood tragedies which close on an upbeat note of true grit (like the young boy who determines to plow for money so's his family can git 'lectricity and ""the lights is goin' to be on ever' night . . .""). In her articles Mrs. Giles discourses on writing, tells of her adventures in local politics and house building with her husband, has a kind word for country music and pays tribute to the ethos of the Kentucky hill country, the home of her husband's family. Soggy as a bachelor's cornpone but don't m misdoubt that the neo-Ferber/Giles audience will find this more than tolerable satisfyin'.
