There are few writers of whom one can say that there are fifty- and more- stories that are still reckoned among the best short stories ever written. Unfortunately, too many people today have never known what a superb short story teller Kipling was. As Jarrell says- they remember the things that are not true. For those to whom Kipling is still unknown and except for his Just Stories, The Jungle Books. Puck of Pook's Hill, etc. he is unknown to most young people today, who think of him as a teller of tales to children-here is a chance to discover for themselves. For those of us who have never forgotten his magic here in a chance to recapture it.
