STORM IN THE WEST

In 1943, Dore Schary, with Sinclair Lewis as a collaborator, executed his concept of a ""realistic allegory"" that would parallel the rise to power of Hitler and Mussolini in a motion picture script, which he hoped to produce. This is the text of that script, along with an introductory snapshot-sketch of ""Red"" Lewis. For the ""imagination"", less impoverished than ours, which can ""leap"" and view this as a ""combination of The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich and Zane Grey at his best"", it is to be read as a western with inferences and implications, in which a left characters (villain Hygatt is Hitler, Gribbles is Goebbels, temporizer Chambers is Chamberlain, etc.) can be easily identified. The real name value however would seem to be in the Lewis and Schary authorship, and may be as conjectural as viewers for the film which was never made.
