In this age of change, of aggorniemento (bringing up to date), Monsignor Kelly writes for the Christian who would or should be actively pursuing his mission as a child of God in the world. ""We should try to step out of ourselves -- put ourselves in the shoes of our fellow human being, no matter what his race, religion or condition in life,"" and he enlarges upon this theme in terms of the commitment to Christ (""Come, follow me""), the Christian and prejudice, the Christian and his family, in human society (""From the beginning of time, God has wanted us to become involved""). The Christian (and here and throughout one must read Catholic) in relation to his Church, in the market place, in a religious or secular vocation, also comes under consideration. Monsignor Kelly does not address himself to the intellectual although his own grounding is considerable; rather, he speaks to the average person, firmly, fairly, from a socially liberal, religiously orthodox position.
