KIRKUS REVIEW

A companionable collection of American folktales covers the continent from Maine to California and takes its legends from a variety of cultural sources. Fifteen in all, the short selections include the title story- a witch's tale from New England, another witch's tale from Dutch New York, a Pueblo Indian tale of Coyote and Bear and one from Louisiana where the rabbit tricks the elephant and the whale. Authentic and simply told, these are good story time material.
