DRINA DANCES IN ITALY

A sequel to Ballet for Drina (1958 J-67), this continues the story of Adrina Adamo (Drina Adams) who is determined to keep her relationship to the great ballerina Elizabeth Ivory a secret in order to make her own way in a profession in which her deceased mother reigned supreme. At age 14, Drina shows great promise in her studies at the famous Dominick school in London. During a visit to her Italian grandmother in Milan, Drina's young career reaches a high point when in an emergency she is called upon to dance as a full fledged member of the Dominick's touring company. The fact that Drina and the ballet company meet in Milan, that she needs little rehearsal before appearing on stage, and the repetitiousness of a hackneyed climax, are only a few defeating elements here. There is a conspicuous absence of scenes from the work-a-day ballet world though there are many visual descriptions of London and Italy. In the end this is not a story of a profession or a person, it is ironically only a fair travel log.
