THE BRIDE OF CAIRNGORE

This is the fourth one of Mr. Webb's Hawaiian Gothics and he seems to be taking to woman's work with a little less enthusiasm this time. It is about interior decorator Jessica who comes down to the ancient house of Cairngore to convert it into a hotel for handsome, forbidding, perhaps mad Duncan Gore. Cairngore has a history--that of Gore's ancestor Rebecca who disappeared under unresolved circumstances and still pads around the premises as the Veiled Lady--but between an old diary and newer revelations the question is settled. The plot is certainly familiar but in terms of flora, fauna and maraschino cherries--it's as festive as a luau.
