ESSAY ON HUMAN LOVE

A metaphysical treatise by a French Catholic thinker who, while imprisoned in a German concentration camp, had ample time to meditate deeply on the subject of human Love. He writes about love, physical and spiritual, its expression in the world of the Greeks, of the Jews, of the Christians, and its transformation in modern times by the impact of science (knowledge) and new social ideas which give, particularly to women, new freedom in the realm of love. This is nothing less than an assessment of the role of love in the era we are entering -- an era he calls the ""third"" period, antiquity being the first and Christianity the second. For those who are interested in general ideas, for philosophers, ministers, psychiatrists, this is stimulating and provocative, and, small though its audience may be, to them will prove fascinating and important reading.
