A westport housewife and grandmother writes of the month-by-month happenings in her garden and kitchen, in Woman's Day prose. A Compleat Householder, she yes cloth and hooks rugs, bakes bread, entertains grandchildren, and Exclaims and Philosophizes. When Mrs. Hersey discusses organic gardening, however, she is risp, knowledgeable, and interesting. There are many useful and unorthodox suggestions on the planting of a wide variety of flowers, fruits, and vegetables. There are also some occult remarks about phases of the moon for planting, healthy un rays in vegetables, and flying saucers. There is much of value for home ardeners, and some unintended humor, in this busy domestic portrait.
