WILD FLOWERS TO KNOW AND GROW by Jean Hersey

WILD FLOWERS TO KNOW AND GROW

By

Publisher: Van Nostrand

An attractive book on the enjoyments of wild flowers both in their native habitat and in gardens, this lists 200 wildflowers to know by color, blooming season and site, with illustrations by Allinora Rosse accompanying. Jean Hersey points out what to study about the flowers in situ, discusses their acquisition by buying, growing or gathering, or propagating by seeds, cuttings, divisions--and tells which plants can tolerate the various sorts of handling. Gardens for spring, by the sea, in deep shade, but stream banks and boggy places, or summer flowers in a sunny meadow receive attention in their own chapters. Mrs. Hersey suggests uses of native plants for both food and fun, making of a terrarium, and lastly the protection of wild flower life--what the reader can do to preserve it. Accessible, appealing, informative.
