ERIC PLANTS A GARDEN

Several relevant photographs on each page illustrate easy-to-read garden instructions, set down in the form of a simple present tense story. Eric plans and prepares his garden, plants the seeds of various vegetables, harvests each when it is ready, eats the salad he's grown, and finally carves his pumpkin on Halloween. There are a few hints on growing each vegetable, but children are wisely referred to seed package directions for such particulars as time and depth of planting. Less reasonable is the recommendation, in a preface, of U.S. Department of Agriculture booklets; but Eric himself is an inviting model.
