HANS AND THE WINGED HORSE

Romantic in mood, a tale of fantasy is told effectively in a direct folk style. Only Hans is able to befriend and ride Beauty, the quiet winged horse, and it is he who frees her when greedy adults imprison her in hopes of making money. The soaring quality in the well-drawn illustrations of Pers Crowell echo the quiet dignity of Miss Kellogg's prose. It's also easy to read aloud.
