THE STORY OF ELI WHITNEY

By

Pub Date: Sept. 14th, 1953
Publisher: Aladdin Books

An adequate, pleasantly animated enlargement of the vital statistics in Whitney's life gives a period picture of the inventor's trials and triumphs around the turn of the eighteenth century. A direct narrative style glimpses Whitney in boyhood and his ""mechanical bent"", shut off until chance landed him with Mrs. Nathanael Greene and the Georgia Plantation environment that released it. And from that point, we are taken through the ins and outs of inventing the gin, producing, patenting- and the dogging consequences- of manufacturing muskets and the development of interchangeable parts, of near bankruptcy, and the final faith in a job well done.
