Although the amount of crook capturing and county cleaning Linda and her fellow law student, Joe, accomplish is rather amazing, this is a career story with cohesion and substance. Druggist's daughter Linda's last two years of law school at a midwestern university are a stage for many phases. She gets studying blues and finds she must knuckle down to more boring things like contracts in spite of her fascination for criminal law; she falls for attractive, but corrupt Wilson Cameron whose law practice shields the racketeers she and Joe later expose; she gets inspiration from a famous woman lawyer Hilda Lessing and in the end can envision a solid future. An intelligent young novel in which sidelights as well as highlights are examined.
